I have shown this site to friends & gotten laughs & OMG's from them. I hope you don;t get sick of me posting because this is the best place to tell about things that happen under the influence. I have imbibed all of the potent potables on your list although not in recent history. I was telling someone about my debauching the guys Caddy Fleetwood & had them about pissing themselves laughing about it. I didn't see the guy when he found them but heard second hand that he was in tears over his new ride. Almost makes me want to go tell him about it to see his reaction. Hope to post again soon & am looking for the stores here that stock all of the brands Thanks Chief

Anyone remember Hombre!? In the 60's it was 54 cents a pint. Two or three guys could get trashed on a bottle, I think it was 50 proof and it tasted like the hombre pee'd into the bottle. This was a dark "wine" with a close up of a cartoon Mexican bandito on the label. There was another rose colored concoction that had this really long Italian name that sold for 31 cents a pint and we just called it Thirty One. Nasty! These were NYC area gems during my high school years. Anybody have a clue on the 31?

Anyone outside of easter PA ever run into Tiger Rose. I've only ever seen it in a huge jug with some strange cracked-out looking tiger on the label. It's cheaper than the Wild I it's sold next to, and tastes even worse, but at 18% it will get the job done.

Ahh, T-Bird. Back sometime in the mid 70's I went to a football game at West Point brownbagging a bottle. Surrounded by yuppies, I turned in my seat and offered a hit to an Air Force Major sitting behind me. I had never seen an expression like that before. Good times, good times.

Off topic a bit, I recall drinking some crap back in my high school days called Tango. It was supposedly a screwdriver premix, but I believe they used that powdered OJ "substitute" they gave to the astronauts. Prolly where they got the name. Nasty.

I was just looking for info on MD 2020, to see the alc. by vol. This website grabbed my attention and I read about all the bum drinks. Very funny. I had my experience with Cisco at age 13, when the person who was babysitting me and my friend bought each of us a bottle. I remember very little of that night. I know I puked on a beach, and I thought I was going to become an alcoholic because I started drinking it almost every weekend. But I am not an alcoholic, nor a bum. I can just tolerate a lot of other alcoholic beverages better than most women of my stature.

Hello again, I love this site. I have to relate a story of revenge & debauchery that was fueled by 2 bottles of Wild Irish Rose. I had a no good bastard I wanted to get even with a few years ago & used 3 winos to get my revenge in a way that he will always remember. The guy I wanted to fuck over had a brand new Caddy Fleetwood with all leather inside with a leather top & gold trim. I was able to get a spare key to his car by calling in a couple of favors & then set my plan in motion. I found where his car was going to be parked for the entire night & got 3 winos, 2 men & 1 woman. I gave them 2 bottles of Wild Irish Rose & a bag of Mc Donalds food & a bottle of rum as well. The 3 got drunk in the guys car & proceded to party their asses off. By the time he found them they had gotten drunk & eaten, pissed puked & shit all over the upholstery as well as fucked & all other manners of fun. they were all naked in a heap when he found them. Needless to say he had to get rid of that car & I laugh my ass off every time I think of how I fucked that asswipe over!!!!

Hey guys, enjoy this site. I deliver ALL of the wines mentioned here for a living, and i figured id mention another big bum wine that i didnt see on your page. Its called Orange Driver alcohol content is 18%. pints (375)usually go from 1.99 to 2.29 here in NC. fifths (750) go from 2.99 to 3.99.

alot of the bums really dig the small half pint bottles of richards, as theyre usually only 1.09-1.29, and very easily stolen.

This is your typical Buckfast (Bucky) drinker. Enough said.

Buckfast is this national drink of Airdrie, Bargeddie and Coatbridge (The Buckfast Triangle), it's where the infamous 'Bucky Bridge' is, right across the street from my old high school, I only went once.
Is it a coincidence that Buckie Thistle F.C play in green and white hoops?

Hi again, I think this is the funniest site ever. I want to cast a vote for Homemade Dago Red or Paisano. I spent plenty of time crocked on both in my misspent "yout" as Joe Pesci would say. The John Steinbeck book "Tortilla Flats" had a perfect saying for all drinkers of less than bottom shelf. "There are a lot of good ideas in a QUART of wine but not as many in a GALLON" Last nite at work I watched a whole crew of college kids staggering down the street all drunked up on whatever was cheap & easy to get. I sotra miss those days but I know that if I was in for a sip I was in for the bottom of the bottle too. I aint a alcoholic, they went to meetings. I was just a drunk OHHH was I ever!!!! I don;t regret my days of drinking because it sure makes for some funny stories. I was driving down the street the other day & shouted "What's The Word" to a wino pushing a shopping cart full of cans. I got a resounding "THUNDERBIRD!!!" back. Sorta makes you wanna cry. Thanks again CHIEF

Discovered on a trip to Finland, Koskenkorva Salmiakki is - quel horreur! - a 32% liquorice based liqueur, albeit one with the remarkable burn-free gift of slipping down like mother's milk, but rapidly turns your legs back to front. You'll grin like an idiot, talk to walls, sleep like a baby (including peeing yourself), and wake up on a junkyard mattress. The company makes a vodka too, but I value my liver too much.

In college I worked for the school radio station. We announcers were hard partiers. Every year the station would hold a cheap wine party. No wine could exceed $2 a bottle (this was the mid 1970s). Prizes were given for the cheapest and the worst.

One year, "worst" went to Red Rocket.

The following year, Red Rocket was beat out for "worst." It was a tie between White Rocket (even worse than Red!) and Sands Peach Wine.

"Cheapest" went to something called LaFleur Rose, which went for 99 cents a HALF GALLON. A friend who subscribed to the _New Yorker_ pointed out that the mag had profiled this wine, bottled in Brooklyn, as the cheapest wine made in America. It was not as nasty as the true bum wines, though; less sweet but distinctly watery. The head of the bottling company told the _New Yorker_: "We could make it cheaper, but you wouldn't drink it."

Cat In The HatDuring my June Vacation, found that the Wild Irish Rose had dropped from 18% to about 13.5% - was in Elkins, West Virgina ...BUT they had some older bottles, especially a LARGE Size, like a Mogan David large Concord, Cherry, Blackberry. The guy in the liquor store sure was missing a lot of teeth. Back in Spring Valley, Illinois, WIR was still 18%, but the MD20/20 Red Grape had long ago dropped to 13% like the purple rain, and others. Have to double up, the MD20/20 red dropped about 2 or 3 years ago, as I learned on another trip to WV to ride a train.

This past week, Oct. 7 to 15, 2006, was in Quincy, IL, found some Cisco in the local HyVee liquor store, no train. To my amazement, found WIR in Memphis, and Night Train Express in Paduka, KY, after a night in a dry county, scored enough train for return trip and weekend.

Bum Wine, Frank Zappa dedicated a song to the Wino Man (same name) pointing out some of the possible effects. Guess you can find it at Barnes & Noble, Amazon or Wherehouse

The woman in my life would rather see me on Train than Wild Irish Rose, she said I get mean, but less willing to put up with B/S, but I'd rather have Southern Comfort straight up with OJ on the side, or even vodka with Hawaiian Punch. White Port and Lemon Juice, Real Lemon works, not lemonaid.

Contrary to some statements about Ripple being a "high alcohol" content fortified wine,it was not.
If I remember correctly,it was between 9 to 11% alcohol.

The true fortified bum wine starts off at about 15% and works its' way up to 20%.

I see the folks at Wikopedia saying it had a "high alcoholic content".

Maybe compared to beer or a wine cooler, but not to true hardcore classics like MD 20/20 and Tbird.

Ripple was closer to TJ Swan or Spanada.

Very light taste (with a touch of carbonation) too, when compared to Tbird or MD 20/20.

Of course I am talking about the old MD 20/20 which was 20% back in the 70's.

Alas, it is about 13 to 14% these days.

Comment:
MD 20/20 could be found in its 18% form as late as 2005, but those days are over. We are consdiering removing it from the page, sadly.

love the site, only 1 experience with "the train". My wife and I were in Barbados a few years back staying with some well to do relatives. After an afternoon of drinking said relatives produced a bottle of Night Train from behind the bar, for special occasions he proclaimed. There is no words on earth to convey the anguish I awoke to on their bathroom floor, not to mention the embarassment of hearing my previous nights antics recanted to the masses by my wife. I cannot understand to this day 2 things:
-what the hell is in that stuff
-why the hell would they consider this vile concoction a drink for special occasions in this country.
Sadly I will sucumb to the Train again I'm sure, no lessons learned here.

OMG. I have fond memories of MD 20/20. Hotel parties with wannabe thugs (usually Vanilla Ice suburban guys), although I did date a certified gangsta from 'da hood who had drank Mad Dog at breakfast.....luckily I outgrew the bad boy phase and have moved up in the world of fine wines and prefer them out of the box nowadays.

Hi again, Relapsed memory got to me & I had to post again. One time I was slopped on Wild Irish Rose & was top of a grabage dumpster crowing like a rooster. Urr Urr Urr Urr URRRRRR!!!!! A cop came along & asked why I was crowing & told me it was not morning. I mumbled something like thdank guu ossifurrr & fell on my face off the dumpster. The cop was laughing so damn hard that he steered me back to a place where my buddies were able to retrieve me & sneak me back aboard. I also saw a guy drunk on his ass from Mad Dog & beer & Corby's whiskey stick his head out the passenger window of a car at a corner in the bad part of town & look at 2 dudes dressed in Pimp Suits. The one dude says "Say Whut Man??" & the guy puked on both of them!!! One orange pimp suit & one red one were covered!!! I never heard MUNTHAFUKKAHH!!!!! said with more feeling ever. Thanks again CHIEF

Love the site, In order to be a well rounded person one must "take it all in" I feel sorry for the people who have never been broke enough to pick up a bottle of elcheapo hooch. I have tammed down some, but fondly remember puking purple french fries and blacking out. Any time I'm offered a shot of cheap anything I gladly take it a smile rather than being a jerk and elaborating on how much more refined my taste is than others. Makes me feel good to know a public service like this has been incorperated. How about bum beers? I've dabbled in the finest of the bottom shelf beers ,old style, pbr, schaffer, hamms, and think you guys could do some justice to the bottom end of the spectrum.

Buckfast is NOT a bum wine! I have a botle sat in my kitchen now, just waiting to be savoured. Just the fact that I have a kitchen should be proof enough that Buckfast drinkers are a cut above the lowly, meth drinking bums that enjoy a spot of Mad dog or thunderbird!

These are all fine drinks but, as I'm a a person of the more English persuasion, if I want the maximum bang for my buck then I'll always invest in some super-strength cider, at as little as $4 US (in Manchester anyway) for 3 litres of chemical laden fight juice, you just can't go wrong!

Keep living the dream

I must deeply thank this proud webpage for guiding me on 3 of my most painful and dangerous experiences with Alcohol. Some time last feb. 12 of my closest friends held San Diego's 1st unofficial bum wine party. Suffice it to be said that I alone was thrown through a window, broke a bed frame and lost all my clothes. A suggestion for your next bum wine experience: vegtable oil on the kitchen floor...and wait to see who is left standing. Thank you Cisco blue.

Hey guys!!
If you take nothing else away from this website, you must heed the warnings about Cisco. I downed a bottle on a Monday night, then woke on my bathroom floor covered in vomit and blood the next day. It wasn't the drunkest I ever been, but it definitely WAS the sickest I've ever been. The spins were like normal spins only about 10 times faster and more disorienting. From what I'm told I ended up fellating my friend's girlfriend's big toe, then projectile vomiting on her leg mid sentence. Best $2 I ever spent.
Cheers!!

you should really check out spanish cardboard box wines, they might be considered "table wines", but at 50-80 cents per 1000mL cardboard box, its a favorit of both teens and bums, theres a special spanish/basque especiality called Kalimoxo which is cola and cardboard wine mixed 50-50 which is good for a quick buzz,

brands to look out for are don simon and tio de la bota

Hello fellow bumwine enthusiasts! I really need for everyone to know how fucking nasty MD 20/20 is. I tried it last night and I never have tasted something so foul in all of my life. I am currently in the process of drinking a bottle of each bumwine and MD 20/20 was the most repulsive beverage I have ever come accross. I hope that is the worst bumwine I will subject myself to because I have several more to go.

If you ever make it over to Ireland there is only one true bum wine...

BUCKFAST! (also known by its street names Fuctfast or Diesel).

A powder keg of caffine & noxious chemicals, that leaves you wanting for more and your brain ducking for cover.

Acording to the lable its made somewhere in england by monks to a secret recepie and aparentlty the US government had to stop Saddam getting his hands on the stuff.

Very few young braves manage more than one bottle, before they are reduced to a gibbering mess. You have been warned!

Next time i'm over in the US i'll definitely be giving all five of native brews a go!

To the folks in Oakland ,CA.:

I gotta say Richmond is a very close second in terms of the bum/wino hang out places.

I was working for a computer company back in the early eighties and, while waiting for one of my accounts to open up at 8 AM (drug store off of McDonald Ave),I noticed that the corner liquor store was situated right next to a blood donation center.

Talk about hardcore wino's,sell your blood and buy Thunderbird and MD 20/20 to sip while pondering the meaning of life in a strip mall parking lot in one of the most dangerous cities in the SF bay area.

Richmond is so bad that you can't get a cab after 7 PM to take you there or pick you up.

Way to go Ernest and Julio!

You're the bomb!

I don't drink bum wines anymore but I have slugged down my share in earlier days. The first time I consumed Thunderbird I had to sleep it off in the drunk tank in the city jail of Springfield, Tennessee. I was only 17 at the time so I may have justification for a lawsuit here, of course this happened in 1958 so it may be to late. The price of alcoholicbeverages has always been high in Tennessee so in the T-bird commercial the price here was 30thrice rather than 30 twice. Why do you have no mention of Annie Green Springs peach wine? I never tried it but recall seing it in the bum wine section of my local liquor stores. I have retired recently and am living on social security so I may soon be forgoing the pleasures of Cabernets, Merlots, and Champagnes and returning to my roots, good old reliable "BUM WINES".

What is going on!! I visited my local store where I used to get Richards by the gallon and they now only sell the smaller bottles, 750 ml max. - not even half-gallons. What this means of course is that I have to look like a fool or drunkard by buying a dozen bottles or so or return to the store more often than I care to. It's in a VERY bad area of town.

To make matters worse - They have some new flavors like Wild Grape, Wild Apple, etc. I decided to try one and it had only 12 or 13 percent alcohol. Man, Richards is about to lose one of their best cuatomers.

Incidentally, you know the video of that guy falling down in his underwear - didn't you notice that he had a smile on his face when he hit the floor?? You arrogant SOBs just don't get it.

I gave up drinking after that & got my stripes back but NEVER earned gold hashmarks or stripes. I looked at a local store here & found 4 of the 5 so that is honorable mention at best. Had the store owner laughing at the thought of a bum wine website. Thanks for a good laugh. CHIEF

Anyway, not long after i got my drivers licence i took my 1st solo car trip to town. I stopped at a local convience store (X-Press Lane) to grab a soda. Behind the counter was a WALL of cheap rot-gut, including most of the stuff mentioned here. Between me and the counter was black guy buying some T-Bird and the little packs of Orange Kool-Aid. I don't remember how the conversation went, but i made a joke, he laughed, he made one back, me and the clerk laughed and then i asked him what he was going to do T-Bird (also a common drink among local farm hands) and orange kool aid. He indecated he was going to mix the 2...it took a minute for my brain to process that, and by the time i had thought of what to say, he had gone. Oh, well...

as seasoned underage drinkers we thought this site was great, except thinking that we should stay away from these fine products. we love our liquid crack and mad dog days. The strawberry cisco is a love potion to girls in our area. They complain about drinkin it but once we show up with it they guzzle it down, revealin the true slut within. And we don't even fuck with the 350ml bottles we go big, real big..don't get me started on mad dog, that shit is the glue that holds me together. i'm not ashamed of that in any way.

My parents used to run a mom 'n pop liquor store in Oakland. I remember the small bottles used to be called "short-necks." Does anyone remember what the big bottles were called? Is there a web site for cheap ghetto beer memories too? Colt 45 and The Bull would top that list!

Eloquent words of a certain Axl Rose. Could he have put it any better.Night Train bloody rules. A man goes from zero to hero (at least in his own mind) within ten mins of a swig of this bad ass booze.
From hero its all down hill to drunken degenerate. Yeeeeaaaahhh!!!

OH yes, I went to good old Beverly HIlls High School and our drink of choice back then was Black Cherry or Peach CISCO that we bought at the Korean liquor store on Sunset and La Cienega, no ID needed. (we also drank a lot of CLUB Brass Monkey, after the beastie boys song...we were lame)

What I remember most, aside from puking in many well pruned bushes and front doorsteps, is that a small wine cooler sized bottle of CISCO says that it serves four. FOUR PEOPLE can get REAALLLLYYY drunk on one bottle. But who are we kidding we used to beer bong that stuff and puke on our friends. Us BH kids were really classy (' ')

Sidenote: I didn't even know they made a 750ml bottle until I watched a girl who had never drank before, down the whole thing. I vaguely remember a trip to the hospital. I DO NOT recommend drinking a 750ml...ever. Serves like 42!!

Retired (last year) State Trooper here in Virginia. I don't remember ever seeing any Cisco here. The overwhelming favorite is Wild Irish Rose, with Mad Dog a distant second. I never heard a drunk call it Ro-say either. Don't ever wake up a bum in the morning and let him breathe on you if he drank this stuff the night before!

Comment:
Bum wines seem to be regional, but Wild I has one of the largest regions. I'd like to work on a map showing the prevelance of the differnet brands.
